The IC698CPE040 is a 1.8 MHz CPU manufactured by GE Fanuc for the RX7i series. The IC698CPE040 uses a Pentium-M microprocessor loaded with 64 MB of user memory and 64 MB of user flash memory. Just like any other RX7i CPU, the IC698CPE040 is configured to perform real-time control over devices, processes, and material handling structures. The rack-mounted backplane facilitates communication between the IC698CPE040, I/O, and intelligent option modules through the VME64 standard format. The embedded Ethernet port facilitates communication between the IC698CPE040, programmers, and different HMI devices.
When powered on, the IC698CPE040 will perform routine self-diagnostic tests. During initialization, the LED lights are turned on and off in sequence. After initialization, the OK LED light will flash and then light up. The RAM memory is protected by the lithium battery pack IC698ACC701. To avoid memory loss, routine maintenance procedures should include regular replacement of the lithium battery pack. In addition to maintaining programs and data storage, the lithium battery can also operate the calendar clock in the event of a power outage.
The IC698CPE040 CPU provides many important features, including automatic positioning of symbol variables using arbitrary user memory, VME module support, test edit mode (allowing users to easily test modifications even when the program is running), bit word references, and three different serial ports. The CPU and module firmware can be upgraded via the Win loader on the RS-232 or RS-485 serial port of the CPU.
