The MOTOROLA MVME6100 VME single-board computer is the first VMEbus single-board computer (SBC) interface chip designed by Tundra Tsi148 VMEbus to provide 2eSST VMEbus performance. The 2eSST (Double Edge Source Synchronous Transport) protocol allows VMEbus to operate at a real bandwidth of 320MB/s in most cases. The 2eSST protocol has been around for some time (a draft trial standard was published in 1999 and published as an ANSI standard in 2003), but so far, 2eSST boards have not worked in standard VMEbus backplanes. Because existing VMEbus transceivers cannot support the required VMEbus 2eSST signaling speeds. Texas Instruments (TI) has developed a new VMEbus transceiver that supports the VMEbus signal switching speed required by the 2eSST protocol. The combination of the new Texas Instruments (TI) VMEbus transceiver and Tsi148 VMEbus legacy protocol support allows users to integrate the MVME6100 series into their existing infrastructure, providing backward compatibility.
