The NI PXI-4071 71/2-bit FlexDMM is a high-performance, multi-function 3U PXI module that provides the measurement capabilities of two commonly used test instruments – a high resolution digital multimeter (DMM) and a digitizer. As A digital multimeter, the PXI-4071 provides fast and accurate voltage measurement from ± 10 nV to 1000 V, current measurement from ± 1 pA to 3 A, resistance measurement from 10 μ1/2 to 5 G1/2, and resistance measurement from 10 μ1/2 to 5 G1/2. Frequency/period and diode measurements are also available. In high-voltage, isolated digitizer mode, the PXI-4071 can collect DC-coupled waveforms at a sampling rate of up to 1.8 MS/s in all voltage and current modes. Using the analysis capabilities of NI LabVIEW software, you can analyze these waveforms in both the time domain and the frequency domain. The PXI-4071 offers superior speed, accuracy and functionality, making it ideal for automated testing on production floors and in R&D environments.

The NI PXI-4071 (Part number: 778271-01) is a FlexDMM multi-function 3U PXI module that provides the estimation capabilities of high-resolution digital multimeters (DMM) and digital meters. As A digital multimeter, the PXI-4071 provides fast and accurate voltage estimates from ± 10 nV to 1000 V, current estimates from ± 1 pA to 3 A, resistance estimates from 10 μω to 5 Gω, and resistance estimates from 10 μω to 5 g ω. Recurrence/cycle and diode estimates are also performed. The DC current range of the device is -3A to 3A. In high-voltage, restricted digitizer mode, the PXI-4071 can obtain DC-coupled waveforms at test rates of up to 1.8 MS/s in all voltage and current modes. Using the inspection capabilities in NI LabVIEW programming, users can study these waveforms in a timely manner. The PXI-4071 offers universal speed, accuracy, and practicality, making it a poor choice for robotic testing.
The model leverages a modern architecture that utilizes fast PXI bushlines over the traditional 7 1/2 digit multimeter speed/execution boundary. The 7 1/2 bits of the PXI-4071 enable a DC read rate of 7 S/ s. For applications requiring higher throughput, it has a high DC read rate of 10 kS/s at 4 1/2 digits (these rates are no less than five times the DMM controlled by the original GPIB). When AC coupled, the device has an automatic range time of 250 ms (for AC V and AC 1), a range/function change of 10/s, and a trigger delay and maximum trigger rate of 2 μs and 1 kHz respectively. The equipment has 1 hour warm-up time before operation.
The PXI-4071 can import and export triggers, making their coordination with any multiplexer/matrix switch module simple. Specifically, FlexDMM aligns with National Instruments’ switch products. For example, with NI Switch modules and NI Switch Executive switch management software, users can quantify a large number of channels, including voltages, thermocouples, RTDS and thermistors. Users can also keep a firm grip on the cost of their framework.
