Pro-Face/Xycom Automation’s 3500 series flat panel industrial computers are rugged and suitable for use on the factory floor. (Our standard computer configurations meet strict specifications for use in hazardous locations and the European CE mark.) Based on CPU boards designed for industrial automation, these systems provide the functionality needed for demanding applications.
The XVME-681 processor module is the core component of the computer, which mainly includes the central processing unit (CPU) and its related circuits and components. CPU is a large scale integrated circuit, is the computing core and control core of the computer. Its main functions include interpreting computer instructions and processing data in computer software.
Logically, the CPU can be divided into three main modules:
Control unit: XVME-681 This is the command and control center of the entire CPU, responsible for coordinating the orderly work of the entire computer. According to the user’s pre-programmed program, it takes out each instruction from the memory in turn, determines what operation should be carried out through the instruction decoding, and then sends a microoperation control signal to the corresponding component through the operation controller.
Arithmetic unit: This is the core of the arithmetic unit and is responsible for performing arithmetic operations (including basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and their additional operations) and logical operations (including shifting, logic testing, or comparing two values).
Storage unit: XVME-681 This includes the CPU’s on-chip cache and register group, which is where the CPU temporarily stores data. It holds data that is waiting to be processed or has already been processed. The CPU spends less time accessing registers than it does accessing memory, which helps the CPU work faster.
